Guided home practice classes

GUIDED HOME PRACTICE OVER ZOOM

Intermediate Class
Thursday: 7:00 : 8:45 p.m.

Before the class

  • Find a quiet, spacious, well-lit room, preferably with a clear wall
  • Avoid bright lights and windows behind you as it causes a glare on the screen.
  • Draw curtains or blinds
  • Make sure your space is safe and without trip hazards (wires, carpets, table edges, etc.)
  • Have your yoga equipment and a chair handy
  • Remember if you don't have yoga equipment, extra blankets, towels, socks, or tights can be used, folded or rolled while dressing gown cords and firm cushions can all be put to good use.
You may also purchase yoga equipment from yogamatters.com

Please ask anyone in your house who is a heavy internet user (gaming or streaming films/videos) to refrain while your yoga class is going on as it may impact on your connection.
If your internet connection is poor you may need to turn the video off and only have audio for the duration of the class. This will mean you will be able to see and follow the class but Fiona won't be able to see you.
Consider using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi speakers if you have them for better sound.
Dress appropriately for your own comfort and remember that others may also be able to see you.
Do not wear socks during class.

Connecting to the class

Be ready to join 15 minutes before start time to say hello and sort out technical hitches.

When you arrive you will be in the “waiting room” where Fiona will admit you to the class. This is a security setting to prevent intruders from entering and disrupting the class.

The class will start promptly.

Using Zoom

  • With an Android phone, iPhone or tablet, download the Zoom app before the first session
  • You do not need to register an account with Zoom
  • With laptops or PCs, Zoom launches automatically
  • To join the class just click the link in the email and follow the process
  • "Join with audio"

Recording sessions will not be possible for insurance reasons.
During the class, all class participants will be muted but you can unmute yourself if you need to speak.
To see Fiona on the main screen and to follow the class, please select “Speaker View” for the class. “Gallery View” will let you see all the other class participants.

Technical stuff

iPad, tablets

Should your device, in the process of loading ZOOM, become stuck (usually just prior to entering the session) with a "loading" spinning circle for over a minute, the best advice on offer is to turn off your device and wait a few seconds before restarting it and clicking on the link in the email again. This will normally clear whatever is stopping the completion of the loading of the app

  • Tablets have 2 cameras, front, and back. Make sure you can see yourself on the screen. Switch “Camera” direction (front/back) icon is on the lower left side of the ZOOM screen
  • Controls for “Video”, “Microphone”, “Chat”, and “List of Participants” are located top right
  • When you enter, activate the “Video” and “Microphone” ~ initially, they will have red lines through them which will go when you tap on them
  • During the session, your microphone will be muted
  • You may un~mute it at any time to ask a question
  • Switching to “Gallery View” on the left side of the ZOOM screen lets you see all participants. This is useful before and after the session. Use “Speaker View” during the class
  • Switch to “Active Speaker” on for the session. If you only see yourself, then on the bottom of the ZOOM screen you may see a series of thumbnail images. Tap on the one with Fiona.
  • To leave the class, find the "Leave meeting" message in the top left-hand corner
